In accordance with my promise when you called
the other day, reported to r. ¡larcourt as fully as I
could, what you said to me. he wishes me to say, in reply,
that you are mistaken in supposing that there was any
animus against you in the matter of the appointment of
egal adviser to the Chinese Lovernment, and that he cannot
add anything to the communications which have been addressed
to you by the Foreign Office on the subject.
